Panlilio wants Comelec to stop recount

Kristine L. AlaveMANILA, Philippines—Pampanga Governor Ed Panlilio has demanded the suspension of the recount of the gubernatorial race at the Commission on Elections and the replacement of all personnel involved in the revision, charging his rival, Lilia Pineda, of indirect bribery.
In a nine-page urgent omnibus motion, Panlilio lawyer Sixto Brillantes said Pineda has been using her financial resources to curry “subtle” favors from Comelec personnel.
Since the recount started last week, Pineda and her camp has been distributing food and snacks not only to their revision representatives, but also to Comelec personnel, Brillantes said. Pineda was also paying P1,000 a day to her revision representatives, he added.
According to Panlilio's camp, Pineda's distribution of snacks and drinks to Comelec employees constitute indirect bribery, which aims to destroy the neutrality and impartiality of the poll workers.
Brillantes called for an investigation into the incident and urged the Comelec Second Division to replace all the poll workers who received food from Pineda.
