High court lifts TRO on Taguig vote recount

THE SUPREME Court has lifted the temporary restraining order on the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal’s recount of votes cast in the 2007 race for the congressional seat in the second district of Taguig. The court, in a resolution, approved Angelo “Jett” Reyes’ petition for the lifting of the TRO. Reyes asked the HRET for a recount of the votes cast in 170 precincts, being incumbent Taguig Rep. Henry Duenas’ closest rival in the previous election. He has reportedly whittled down Duenas’ lead of more than 1,400 votes to just 32. Duenas had sought the TRO, alleging the HRET was showing partiality toward Reyes. The high court granted the TRO in December 2008. Norman Bordadora

Still no leads on Soneja’s slay attempt

THE POLICE task force investigating the attempt on Transportation and Communication Assistant Secretary Elmer Soneja’s life admitted it is facing a blank wall, considering the number of possible masterminds who might want him dead. He said we would all be retired by the time we’ve gone through all of them,” Senior Supt. Mario Soriano, chief of Task Force Soneja, told the Inquirer. DJ Yap
