MANILA, Philippines—The newly merged administration coalition, Lakas-Kampi CMD, Sunday said only those parties that can come up with a full ticket of senatorial and national candidates to back up their standard-bearers would be serious contenders in May 2010.

Lakas-Kampi executive director Rey Roquero said in an interview that at the moment, only Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II of Liberal Party and Senator Manuel Villar Jr. of Nationalista Party appeared to be capable of mustering enough resources to assemble a full national slate to compete with the administration party.

“No Philippine president has won without a full slate,” said Roquero.

Among those jostling for the Lakas-Kampi senatorial slate are: Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus, former Sen. Heherson Alvarez, Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and TESDA director general Augusto Syjuco.

Among the names floated by LP for the Senate are former Senate President Franklin Drilon, Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio, Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca, Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo, broadcaster Cory Quirino, former Agrarian Reform and Education secretary Florencio Abad, and Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III.

Said to be among the NP’s senatorial contenders are Adel Tamano, its spokesperson Gilbert Remulla, re-electionist Sen. Pia Cayetano, San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto Guingona III, Parañaque Rep. Eduardo Zialcita, Iloilo Vice Gov. Rolex Suplico, and former Sen. Agapito “Butz” Aquino.
